Southern Maine Chapter meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at various locations. SOME Chapter has five active Area Groups which each meet once each month, we also have one Chapter Stitch-in/Clinic held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Thornton Hall in Brunswick. April - Our chapter hosted the NER Seminar, "Pining to Stitch", at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, ME. The seminar was a very successful. At the seminar we also had the Marvis Cohen Award Exhibit. This was an inspiring display of original work by stitchers from our chapter. Suzanne Bruno won the Marvis Cohen Award for "My Victorian Crazy Quilt". Honorable Mention's went to Karen Mosher, Barbara Martin, and Monica Hamkins. We were very proud to share this chapter event with other stitchers from our region.
May 17th - In May we had our Annual Meeting at the Portland Country Club. Barbara Meger gave us a lecture and workshop on smocking. The President's Challenge this year was to make a piece of jewelry, part of which needed to be done with a threaded needle. The winner of the President's Challenge was Serena Dube.
June 25th - The Chapter will be stitching at the Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk. We will also have an opportunity to see some antique samplers.
July 19th - Our chapter program will be a Very Berry Crewel Strawberry designed by Barbara Hepburn.
September 20th - Our chapter program will be a Japanese Embroidery inspired berry by Carol Woods.
October 1 and 2 - The Red Rabbit Needlecase Workshop with Lauren Sauer. If interested, please contact Marjie Thompson as soon as possible at 207-829-6111 or marjie@maine.rr.com.
November 15th - The chapter meeting will be our annual holiday potluck. At this meeting we will be collecting new sweatshirts and sweatpants for Family Crisis Services. Golden Needle Opportunity Tickets will be drawn and winners for this year will be announced.
"Pining to Stitch" kits for the "Scissor Haven" and "pocket" are now available from Barbara Hepburn. The chapter will be selling kits for the "Pining to Stitch" series through November 2011. So, if you are lacking any kits contact Barbara Hepburn as soon as possible at Brit45@roadrunner.com.
Membership - We have 77 members. We have lost 15 members this year.
