Northern New England Chapter - News

Feb. 14: at our first general meeting following our winter break, Carolyn Ingles taught us to make lovely purses out of silk ties, all of which could be embellished with embroidery, beads, etc.  (Finally, a use for my husband’s old ties now that he’s retired!)  April 14: Becky Crowther will teach us to stitch plaids.  June 14: Betsy Lieper will teach a crewel project.  August’s workshop is to be determined. We will complete the year with our Annual Meeting in Oct.  Our officers remain the same as last year.

Monthly Area groups have a variety of needlework projects planned. The Merrimack group just completed mini Flying Geese quilts and will begin working on a band sampler. The Lakes Region group resumed meetings in April with Show and Tell and discussion of future projects. The

Seacoast group remains on hiatus at the moment.

On February 4, seven members participated in a public stitch-in at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester and two members stitched that day at the Wolfeboro Library for a total of 28 member hours.  Members’ work was again displayed at the Wolfeboro Public Library for the month of December – this is becoming an annual event.  Our chapter has once again been invited to demonstrate needlework at the League of NH Craftsmen Sunapee Fair in August.  Our new Chapter business cards are being distributed at all of these events, and all events have generated some potential new member interest.

We are disappointed that Michael Boren will not be able to teach the scheduled October workshop due to continuing health issues. Our President, Evie Faichney, has received Michael’s permission to teach the piece (Arabella Reborn), however, and we are in the process of working out a schedule and cost if we decide at our April meeting to go ahead with this.

We all were especially pleased with the wonderful NeedleArts article about our member Lea Stark and with the article on the Wolfeboro exhibit!

Our membership currently stands at 18 members, including 1 life member and 2 plural members.--Kathy Erskine
