Celestial Stitchers Chapter - News

Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, corner of Spring and Prospect Streets in Shrewsbury. Second Thursday of the month (unless otherwise noted) 6:30-9:30 p.m.

It has been a busy and fun year so far. We have welcomed both some new members and a returning member. We are now up to 18 members. (Yeah!). Carolyn Ball-Hanson took over as Program Chair from Judy Shields, who resigned for personal reasons. Carolyn will also continue in her role as Regional Representative.

In January we finished the Shashiko coasters that we had started last year. February saw some of us working on the Liesel –Schwalm GCC while the rest of us worked on our own projects. On Saturday February 4, five members held a stitch-in at the Millbury Public Library to celebrate Stitch in Public Day. We had great fun interacting with the public and handing out a small cross stitch practice kit. In March, many of us learned the basics of ribbon embroidery with the help of Carolyn and Hanka Robertson, who are old hands at it. Members were surprised at the easy and beautiful results. Remaining programs are:April 12th:     Liesel-Schwalm Correspondence Course
May 10th:      Finishing Ribbon Embroidered Name Tag, making cording & tricks of the trade
June 14th:     Huck (aka Swedish Weaving) Bookmark
July 12th:      Christmas in July Party and Stitch –in
August 9th:    Crazy quilted Heart Necklace
September 13th: Mt Mellick Embroidery
October 11th: Beaded Ornament, share what kind of stitching scares you
November 15th:   Finishing Mt Mellick, Annual Meeting  and vote on Yearly Challenge Projects.  This year’s theme is “Home”.
December 13th:   Stitch-in to help with those LAST MINUTE PROJECTS

Bed Rug Demonstration: We will be hosting Gina Gerhard for a lecture and class on The History and Making of Bed Rugs, thick woolen coverlets entirely covered in looped yarn. She and a friend, Sandra Tarbox, are currently recreating two bed rugs. Though time and costs are still being worked out. The program will be open to EGA members. We will send out a notice with details as soon as we have them.
