Merrimack Valley Chapter - Ninth Biennial Seminar
The Merrimack Valley EGA Chapter's Ninth Biennial Seminar will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 29, 2012 at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Billerica, Massachusetts. We would like to extend an invitation to stitchers in the area to join us for a fun-filled, educational weekend of stitching excitement. The Marriott Courtyard is conveniently just off Route 3 at Exit 27 (Concord Road), between Route 128 and I-495.
The registration deadline is March 20, 2012. Membership in MVC EGA is not required for attendance, however, chapter members will be given registration preference until January 17. 2012.
In addition to the two structured classes offered by teachers Nancy Cucci and Thea Dueck, we are also offering Studio Time, a chance for you to stitch on the project of your choice while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of seminar.
The $195.00 registration fee includes class fee, lunch Saturday and Sunday, and seminar favors. Kit fees are additional. There will be an optional dinner at the Marriott Courtyard on Saturday night. The cost of the dinner is $35.00 per person and includes appetizer, salad, entreé, and dessert, along with rolls and butter, coffee, and tea. Seminar registration confirmations will be sent after the registration deadline of March 20, 2012 and will include directions to the hotel.
If you desire overnight accommodations, please contact the hotel directly by calling 1-978-670-7500. We have reserved a small block of rooms at the nightly rate of $85 (plus 9.7% room tax). Please mention Merrimack Valley Chapter EGA when making your reservation. Our contract with the hotel is such that the number of sleeping rooms occupied by seminar attendees determines the rent we’re paying for classroom space, so please make sure the hotel knows you’re attending the seminar.
We will again be having a needlework yard sale during the seminar, featuring items donated by seminar participants. Bring anything you have that is stitching related. Items may be in any condition — new, partially-stitched, whatever. Kits, charts, books, threads, fabric — if it has to do with stitching, bring it with you! More details will be included with your registration confirmation.
On Saturday, classes end at 4:45 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:00. We have invited the seminar teachers to participate in a “Merchandise Hour” during this time. This is a scaled down version of Merchandise Night at the national seminars, where you may be able to find kits, books, and other wonderful goodies not usually available.
“Amazing Grays” with Nancy Cucci

Approximately 6 to 8 hours of pre-class work are required. This consists of stitching the outlines for the various boxes

The kit includes 18-count white mono canvas, #8 and #12 Kreinik braids, cotton floss, tapestry needles, beading needles & thread, instructions with color photo, 20 little baggies full of the gunmetal gray and white beads needed to complete the project.
For the class at Seminar, the student will need to bring the “preworked” canvas mounted on 12” x 12” stretcher bars, the leftover prework threads, and the usual array of stitching “equipment” and supplies. Since we’ll be threading beading needles lots, Nancy highly recommends magnification, a pair of very sharp scissors, and perhaps an additional light source. The hotel will have power strips available for each table in the classroom. One last item you may find very useful is a highlighter or some colored pencils or pens for making notes as we move through the stitch guide.

“Victorian Purse” with Thea Dueck
Thea has designed this beautiful Victorian Purse for you! She has used two different linens; a bronze green and a rich wine mulberry which are combined for colour elegance. This gloriously decadent drawstring reticule also contains a matching pipkin, needlebook / scissors keep, and scissors fob!
NER Newsletter Summer 2011 20
On the front of the reticule is a sweet Victorian-like country scene, showing a house and two ladies reaching for a heart-fruit hanging from the tree, while sheep graze peacefully in the far meadows. The beautiful Bargello and Silk Ribbon bands enhance the bottom of the purse. Thea used such delicious colours; fuschia bronze gold green purple and rose threads on antique gold/green linen.. just scrumptious! On the back of the bag you'll find a different scene, with a large Victorian monogram using initials of your choice. The sides include some pulled pulled thread with silk ribbon flowers and of course you'll find more of the Victorian floral motifs as well as the bargello at the bottom of the purse. You can also make a soft rose perle cotton cording drawstring. The soft bronze/green linen for the front and back of the purse contrasts beautifully with the mulberry of the side gusset. There is a needlebook with black wool felt for needles and a matching scissors keep inside. Also, an adorable pipkin to keep some extra small treasures in; like your thimble, buttons, spool of sewing thread for basting, and other small items you might need. Finally there is a tiny scissors fob heart, with silk ribbon flower on one mulberry side, and a lovely bargello wave on the other green side. What a lovely set to have for your own!
The Kit includes 28-count cashel linen in willow green and mulberry; Dupioni silk for finishing the pieces; #12 pearl cotton; #4 Kreinik braid; Trebizond, Gloriana, Neelepoint, Inc., Kreinik Mori, Soie d’Alger, and Walerlilies silk; Rainbow Gallery Wisper; Treenway and YLI silk ribbons; SJ Designs and Mill Hill beads and pearls; tapestry and beading needles; complete instructions, including a full-color DVD “Finishing Victoria Purse.”
The kit fee includes an allowance of $15 for mailing the pre-class work to each student. If the actual cost is less, students will receive a refund for the difference at the seminar.
In addition to the usual needlework kit (extra needles, pins, beading needles, sewing thread, pencil, doodle cloth), the student must supply scissors with very fine blades (suitable for Hardanger or other cut work), magnification and extra light, if required. The hotel will have power strips available for each table in the classroom.
Studio Time
Do you want to come to the seminar, but you don’t want another new project? Then, Studio Time is for you! Bring one (or more) of your works in progress and enjoy two days of uninterrupted stitching time with your friends.
