Special November Two-Day Class with Catherine Jordan
Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13, 20
A needlework map of the beautiful state of Maine adorns the cover of this small journal with details found in vintage pen and ink drawn and hand-painted maps: Roman, script, block lettering, a compass and parchment-like title cartouche. Counted and surface techniques are used to embellish the map with lighthouses, sailing ship and whale tail. The shorelines and land areas are hand painted as was done with early maps. The back cover is reserved for a special scroll cartouche which is also hand painted with space reserved for the maker’s name.
This class is an introduction to needlework map making with emphasis on fabric painting and finishing. The covers may be customized with the maker’s home town and individual motifs.
Class cost will be $85 for the entire kit and two days of class time. Additional journals will be available for purchase for those who want to create more journals using maps and locations of their choice for this class is as much about learning how to design stitched maps as it is about the specific project.
A sign up form will be included with the next NER newsletter. Class size is not limited. The workshop will be held at the Yarmouth Town Hall in the meeting room we use. Tentative hours are 9:30 to 4 each day.
